Dear Friend,
This year, nearly 3,000 American men and women will be diagnosed with
a rare form of cancer known as mesothelioma. Unfortunately, mesothelioma
diagnoses are increasing annually as the result of inhaling asbestos dust
decades earlier in the work place, at home, and in schools.
Although a definitive cure for mesothelioma remains elusive, The University
of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center treats this disease with curative
intent when possible.
The National Mesothelioma Foundation is a non-profit organization whose
mission is to help patients and their families seeking evaluation and
treatment at The M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. This
includes assistance with travel and lodging arrangements as well as emotional
and spiritual support to those fighting this devastating disease away
from much of their family and friends.
M. D. Anderson ranks as the nation’s top cancer center based, in part,
on the popular opinion of board certified physicians from across the country.
Over 65,000 patients came to Houston last year for diagnosis and treatment
for many forms of cancer, including mesothelioma.
Through tax-deductible contributions, the National Mesothelioma Foundation
strives to heighten public awareness of mesothelioma treatment and prevention,
support promising research at M. D. Anderson, and alert the greater medical
community about initial symptoms of mesothelioma to insure the earliest
possible diagnosis. We encourage all those diagnosed with mesothelioma
to learn more about treatment options at M. D. Anderson and at other cancer
centers across the country.
The National Mesothelioma Foundation will grow in the years ahead to
work with other cancer centers, providing much needed research funding
and improved services to the many victims of this devastating disease.
I hope you consider a tax-deductible contribution to help us achieve our
mission.
